Diabetes Mellitus Freed
Freed DM is a blend between an idea incubator and online boutique. Formed in 2013 by a small group of individuals who desired to interact with their insulin management devices in a new way - in a way that did not include a zippered pouch. The increasing popularity of additive manufacturing during that time offered them the ability to prototype many unique accessories affordably. This exploration and real-world testing led to the public offering of our line of OmniPod Accessories in 2014.
Since 2014 we have continued to imagine how the management of diabetes could be improved. We explored many ideas; however, few met our standards for a public release. We also refrained from providing products which are already procurable; our goal is to expand the resources available to help ease the management of diabetes mellitus.
During 2014 and 2015 we were impressed with the abundant growth of patient initiated activities both within and apart from our group. Many of our collaborators spend their time contributing to other patient launched efforts which we supported wholeheartedly.
In 2016 our attention was brought to a new focus. Subcutaneous insulin absorption. A foundational issue in diabetes management which has not received adequate attention. We hope that our newest products will help individuals develop a deeper understanding of their bodies and gain greater glycemic control. This effort is highlighted by our web application “inSite.” An application designed to allow insight into one’s skin sites used for insulin infusion. Our work in 2017 will continue to focused towards the improvement of this application.
